The Dam Jawn

The Dam Jawn is a band consisting of five young jazz musicians from the Amsterdam jazz scene who found each other during a joint exchange in the United States. There they lived together and studied at Temple University located in Philadelphia. They found their own voice there by composing and arranging music for their debut album, inspired by their experiences in America.
Although all five band members operate from Amsterdam, the quintet is very international. Martín Díaz (alto saxophone) and Joan Foart (guitar) are both from Barcelona, Spain. Philip Lewin (bass) is from Stuttgart, Germany and both Nitin Parree (drums) and Frank Groenendijk (tenor sax) are from the Netherlands. The debut record features legendary saxophonist Dick Oatts, who also contributed as a mentor to composing, arranging and rehearsing our own music. The tight bond among the members of The Dam Jawn results in an original band sound, inspired by the energy and soul of the current Philadelphia jazz scene and its rich musical history.
